ATV Ride

Join Outdoor Recreation as we ride the trails and experience the terrain... ATVs offer a new brand of adventure and the ability to go places that are difficult for even horses! Rugged trails provide exhilarating off road thrills and excitement. We will leave Outdoor Recreation at 7:15 a.m. Cost is $90 for a 3 hour ride. Bring your own water and supplies.

Arizona Hot Springs

Join Outdoor Rec in a moderate / strenuous day hike to the mighty Colorado River. This hike through Arizona's picturesque White Rock Canyon leads to Arizona Hot Springs, a favored destination for hikers, boaters and campers. The canyon offers a gradual, 900 foot descent to the river. We hike back up the same canyon on our return to the trailhead, a round- trip distance of six miles. The van leaves OR at 0830, returns to base around 1600. Cost is only $5 and includes transportation. Each hiker should bring WATER, lunch, good hiking shoes and sun protection. You may also want sandals for climbing and wading at the hot springs.

Beginner Climbing Clinic

This is your chance to learn how to rock climb in a safe indoor environment. Outdoor Recreation will be joining Desert Rock Sports to provide a beginners climbing clinic along with hours of fun climbing in their state of the art indoor climbing facilities. The clinic will start at noon and will be followed by free climb until the late afternoon. The cost to is only $20, this includes wall time, instruction, equipment and transportation. The van will leave Outdoor Recreation at 11a.m. Transportation to a fast food restaurant will be provided or you can bring your own lunch. For more information call Greg at 2-8967.

Black Canyon Canoe Trip

This popular canoe adventure begins at the base of Hoover Dam and continues 14 miles down the Colorado River to Willow Beach. We will visit sauna cave, various hot springs and pools and other points of interest along the way. Lunch is provided, but bring a camera and be prepared to snap photos of the wildlife and fantastic scenery. Departure time is 6:45 a.m. and return is around 5:30 p.m. Cost is $45 and includes lunch and fees.

Birding Watching

Join Outdoor Recreation as we go explore Henderson Bird Preserve. For a Birding 101 workshop and the observation of birds in there natural habit. This covers the basics of using binoculars and identification techniques and bird watching etiquette. Dress for the weather and ware good walking shoes. Cost is only $5 to cover travel expense. Trip will depart at 8 a.m. and returns mid afternoon.

Brian Head Ski

Whether you’re a skier or an enthusiast of the fast growing sport of snowboarding, Brian Head has the terrain for you! With its over 9,000 foot base altitude, Brian Head enjoys over 400 inches of powder each year. Ten lifts and over 50 trails reach novice through advanced terrain. A new half pipe and expanded terrain park await! Kick back and let Outdoor Adventures take you to the slopes!

Trip departs at 0500 and returns around 2000. Cost $60 adults, $40 child (includes transportation and lift ticket—equipment rental extra.)

Canyon Rim Horseback Ride

Ride atop the rim of Fossil Ridge and overlook the colorful Spring Mountains and the rainbow colored canyons. Enjoy caves and a truly amazing view of the brilliantly vibrant Red Rock Canyon. Your 2 hrs under a beautiful desert sky on horseback climbing to the summit affording you magnificent views and photo opportunities makes this a memorable outing. Cost for this scenic ride is only $ 70

China Ranch Hike

Imagine towering cottonwoods and willows by a wandering stream. Date palms and abundant wildlife, all hidden away in some of the most spectacular scenery the Death Valley desert has to offer. The area is rich in history, hike to nearby abandoned mines and the Old Spanish Trail and the Tonopah & Tidewater rail-road bed. This promise to be a wonderful one day adventure. So join OR as we explore this hidden oasis amidst the forbidding Mojave Desert. We will depart OR @ 0800 and estimate a return time of 1700. Bring a lunch or enjoy the many delicious offerings at the Ranch, a community cooler with ice will be provided. Cost for this exciting and fascinating trip is only $10

Day Hike Mount Charleston (Mummy Springs)

This hike passes a 3,000 - year old bristle cone pine, the oldest living thing in the region. Raintree, the giant and ancient bristle cone pine was just a seedling when the Roman Empire was at its zenith. June thru September colorful flowers grow alongside the trail. The distance is 7 miles round trip and elevation gain of 1,100 feet. Estimating time of hike at 3.5 to 4.5 hrs. Join Outdoor Recreation as we take a break from the heat of the city and enjoy the view and lunch in the somewhat cooler climate at this elevation (10,200). Cost is only $ 5 to help defray transportation expense. We will depart Outdoor Recreation at 9 a.m. and return by late afternoon.

Day Hike Mountain Charleston - Raintree

This is a 6 mile hike to a 3,000 year old Bristlecone pine in the shadow of Mummy Mountain. There is a fairly steep section getting to the highest point of the hike that involves a series of switchbacks. Total climb for this hike is about 1,500 feet. We will take the steepest part of the climb fairly slowly with several breaks to accommodate anyone who is having difficulty with the elevation. On the way down, I would propose a slightly different route for the last 1.75 miles that would provide some pretty good views from the top of an open ridge line. Cost $5 Show time is 6:45 a.m., departure 7 a.m.

Deep Sea Fishing Coronado Islands

This trip gets you to the fishing grounds by sun up and an action packed day of fishing for yellowtail, bonito, and sea bass waits. You can count on bringing home a sack full from this day’s fishing. The trip will depart at 3 p.m. from Outdoor Recreation for the six hour drive to San Diego. Boat departs the dock at 11 p.m. and returns at approximately 6 p.m. that Saturday and we will return to Nellis at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday. Sign up early to reserve your space at the rail. Cost is only $ 175, and tackle rental of $ 20 is available.

Dixie National Forest

Choose between Mountain or Road Biking, Hiking, Swimming, or Fishing, in this weekend getaway. Outdoor Recreation Van Departs 5 p.m. sharp Friday, with a 4 hour drive and a stop for dinner en route, we will camp along side Lake Navajo, Utah for 2 nights (altitude 9000ft). NO showers and VERY LIMITED bathroom facilities available! ODR will provide a small breakfast Saturday and Sunday and recommends each guest to bring 2 lunches, 1 dinner and various snacks (MRE’s and protein bars HIGHLY encouraged!). All food must be non-perishable as coolers will only be used for keeping water and other drinks cool. Saturday the van will be at limited service for biking and hiking drop offs in the area to include scenic overlooks of Cedar Breaks National Monument, Brian Head Peak, and Zion National Park. Sunday we leave at 4 p.m., with a short stop for lunch and dinner on our return to Nellis AFB. Fishing Licenses, fishing equipment, bike rental, Brian Head Lift Tickets, are not provided and must be purchased separately. Not for the Timid! Cost $45

Family Day Horseback Trail Ride

Outdoor Recreation invites you to join in Family Horseback Trail Ride. Leaving the ranch you will ascend along the ridge of a natural wash, possibly catching a glimpse of big horn sheep, along the mountain peaks. Riding through majestic Joshua trees and a variety of cactus and yuccas, you feel that you have stepped back in time a 100 years. Upon return to the ranch, staff will have a mouthwatering lunch prepared to perfection, with a choice of: Chicken, potato salad, chips, dessert, and beverages. Trip leaves Outdoor Recreation at 10:00 and returns late afternoon Trip leaves. Cost is shared with Outdoor Recreation and is only $ 35 per parent with one dependent child free.

Family Red Rock Day Hikes & Picnic

Join OR as we hike two of the most popular trails in Red Rock Canyon. First we warm up with the Ice Box Canyon Loop and then Calico Tank. The combined distance for both trails is only 5 miles and this makes it a pleasant day hike for beginners and families. OR will furnish a nice picnic style lunch and water, you just have to bring a smile. Cost is only $10 and includes transportation, lunch and entrance fee

Fortification Mountain Hike

Located just a few miles south of Hoover Dam, Hiking and Desert aficionados can join with OR as we explore this old volcano. This Hike offers a fantastic view of Lake Mead and the surrounding areas. The six-mile round trip hike gains 1,197 feet in elevation and summits at 3,657 feet. Trip will depart Outdoor Rec at 0900 and return by late afternoon. Cost is only $10.00 pp

Grand Cavern Cave

Grand Canyon Caverns is a natural limestone cave 210 feet underground. The temperature is a constant 56 degrees F. year round, with a humidity of 6%. It took two years of blasting a shaft 210 feet deep and an additional 18 months to install a modern-day elevator. The original natural entrance was then sealed off forever. The two main rooms -- the "Chapel of Ages" (130 yards long) and the "Halls of Gold" (210 yards long) -- are each large enough to fit a regulation football field in them. There are many other wonderful features of the caverns. Use your imagination until you can see them for yourself. They include: Devil's Den, Snowball Palace, and Mammoth Dome. Spelunkers have been exploring regions in the caverns too dangerous for the public to visit, in the hope of finding more rooms and passageways. Join with OR as we suite up in overalls and miner’s lamp to join in an off trail exploratory cavern tour. This is rustic Arizona cave adventuring at its best! Trip departs at 8 a.m. and returns late afternoon. Cost is $ 65

Gateway Canyon

This hike will take you through an amazing canyon with fantastic sandstone formations bordering the canyon. It is located just east of Red Rock Canyon at the community of Calico Basin just off Highway 159.

The hike is about 5.5 miles long with a vertical gain of 700 feet. Most of the gain is within about one mile, but that section is on trail. The hike in the canyon is off-trail, but the footing is generally good and there will be some rock scrambling that people should have fun doing. Show time is 0715 with departure @ 0730, Cost is only $5.

Grand Canyon Camp Out

One of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world, Grand Canyon is unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers to visitors on the rim. Join with Outdoor Recreation as we camp on the south rim and take two days to explore this unforgettable scenic wonder. With no scheduled agenda you will be free to explore, day hike or just relax around camp. We will depart Outdoor Recreation parking lot at 11 .m. Friday and return late Sunday afternoon. Trip includes transportation, food while in camp and all camping equipment, entrance and camping fees. Cost is only $75

Guided 1880’s Gold Mine Tour

Eldorado Canyon was home to hundreds of mines, one of the most famous was the Techatticup mine. History enthusiast can enjoy a guided tour of this mine that produced more than $2.5 million in gold before 1942. After the mine tour, we head to Railroad Pass Hotel for lunch after lunch, we head to the Clark County Museum. Cost is $20.00 for transportation and the mine tour and museum fee. Lunch expenses will be out-of-pocket for participants. Show time is 0915 Depart OR @ 0930

Horseback Trail Ride

Hoover Dam Day Trip

Join Outdoor Recreation for a fun combination of spectacular scenery and the fascinating story of the construction of this famous Dam. We will leave Outdoor Recreation at 8:30 a.m. and take a narrated 1-1/2 hr lake cruise affording a unique perspective of the Dam. Upon our return a light lunch is offered and then we will visit the Historic Boulder Dam Hotel and Museum. As we head back to base, our final stop will be Clark County Museum. Outdoor exhibits recreate the history of Southern Nevada. Trip price includes transportation, admission fees, and lunch. Cost is only $30 per person.

Indoor Skydiving

Join with OR for this unique experience. Show time 0945 / Depart 1000 Cost $45

Flyaway is a vertical wind tunnel that simulates the freefall experience of skydiving.
When you come to Flyaway, you'll get to fly in a column of air 12 feet across and up to 22 feet high, with vertical airspeeds up to 120 mph - allowing you to FLY INDOORS! As a flyer, participants attend a 20-minute training class where body control techniques and safety procedures are discussed. The next step is equipment preparation. Flyers receive a suit, helmet and other safety equipment. Following a short review of the basics, a group of five flyers then enters the wind tunnel with their instructor. Participants take turns flying during a 15-minute session. Each individual will receive approximately 3 minutes of airtime.

Land Sailing

Mention sailing and what usually comes to mind? Colorful sails and sleek wooden or fiberglass boats, cruising through a setting of water, waves, and sea spray. A re-energized and exciting form of boating, known as land sailing, is now challenging that definition. Land sailing is becoming one of the hottest sports, and it's rapidly making a transition from a fringe activity to a more accessible and enjoyable sport for people of all ages. The new boats are easy to set up and sail, even to those with no prior experience. Join Outdoor Recreation for a day of land sailing. We will depart Nellis Outdoor Recreation and join Edwards Outdoor Recreation for their Land sailing trip. We will furnish safety helmets and leather gloves or bring your own. Cost is only $30 for Land Sailing and transportation.

Learn to scuba dive

Learning to scuba dive is safe and affordable, and requires a modest amount of training. An entry-level certification course takes approximately 32 hours to complete. Classes may take place during day or evening times, and take from a couple of weekends to several weeks to complete. In order to earn a scuba certification, you will participate in classroom sessions and practice essential diving skills in a pool. Finally, you will test your knowledge on a written exam and apply your skills during training dives in Lake Mead. Upon completion, you will receive certification that identifies you as a trained diver, allowing you to rent scuba equipment, participate in advanced training, and explore diving destinations. Liberty Bell Arch Hike

This is a must do hike. Thousands of years of wind and rain have formed a spectacular arch near a perfect lunch spot that overlooks the Colorado River. The rugged terrain will appeal to anyone who likes the outdoors. This 5 mile round trip is suitable for all with an adventurous spirit. Trip will leave from Outdoor Rec. at 0900 and return by early evening.
Cost is only $5 to help cover transportation cost.

Moonlight Sandstone Canyon Hike

Experience Sandstone Canyon by the light of the full moon. This 3-hour hike is moderate with some bouldering in the wash. Prior to the Sandstone Canyon hike, tour the historic ranch house and take a leisurely hike in the Ash Grove. You should bring water, snacks, flashlight, and wear comfortable hiking shoes. No dogs or children under 12. Meet at Outdoor Recreation at 4:45, depart 1700 hours. Estimated return, 2300. Cost $ 10

Mountain Biking in Boulder City

Join Outdoor Adventures on this scenic bike ride. The trail follows the old historic railroad bed that served the construction of Hoover Dam. Traveling through five railroad tunnels and affording a superb view of Lake Mead, the trail is suitable for bikers of all experience levels. We will depart Outdoor Adventures at 8 a.m. and return is expected by early afternoon. Cost is only $ 10 w/ a rental bike or $5 for transportation of your bike.

North Rim Grand Canyon

Beat the heat and join OR as we camp in cool, crisp air among the Aspen and Ponderosa Pine forests and magnificent scenery and hiking opportunities at the North Rim. We will depart OR at 1300 on Friday. Camp will be set up and waiting for your arrival. Cost is only $75 and includes transportation, food, fees and all camping equipment. Pahrump Vineyards

Join Outdoor Recreation for a visit to Nevada’s only Winery. Your tour guide will share the fascinating story of Jack Sanders, the winery's founder, who became an explorer, researcher and innovator, developing the beautifully wild terrain of Pahrump Valley into a lush, thriving vineyard...a very different kind of wine country! At the tasting bar, we will sample award-winning wines during a pause in our tour of the facilities. Step into the well-stocked gift shop and gather up one-of-a-kind, mostly wine related items as souvenirs of this novel experience in a unique desert winery. Paintball Shoot Out

Join Outdoor Rec in an exciting sport that is fast paced and action packed. Get ready for paintball splatters and high adrenaline fun! Powered Parachute Flight

It is probably the most fun you can have in the air in 3-dimensions with your clothes on. Flying a powered parachute is the closest you may ever come to actualizing those childhood flying dreams. It is the closest you will ever come to soaring with the eagles. It is truly a ‘magic-carpet ride’. It is an incredibly safe and fun way to ‘sail-the-skies’! FANTASTIC! Join OR as we travel to Ut. Skydiving

Snowmobiling on Cedar Mountain

Over 250 miles of groomed trail and hundreds of miles of ungroomed trails on this high mountain plateau make this one of Utah’s most appealing snowmobiling areas. The hills and valleys provide the ultimate scenic beauty. Departure time is 0800 from Outdoor Rec. This two-hour romp through the meadows and old logging trails will take us to our destination of strawberry point one of the most scenic areas on the Colorado Plateau. You will love the thrill that you get from plowing through two feet of pure, white, fluffy powder while straddling a 151-inch track that is being spun by a 70-horsepower engine, with nothing to hold on to but a set of handlebars and a throttle. Valley of Fire / Lost City Museum Tour

Tour the Valley of Fire State Park with Outdoor Adventure. This trip will depart at 0900 and return by dark. See fascinating multi colored rock formations that were once part of the ocean bottom! After the tour of the park, the trip will visit the Lost City Museum in Overton, where insight is provided into the original inhabitants of this colorful area. Cost $15 per person

Whale Watching

Join Outdoor Adventures for a three-hour voyage into the waters surrounding the Coronado Islands, off the coast of Mexico! Explore the realm of the California Gray Whale and enjoy dolphins, sea lions, sea birds and other marine wildlife. Trip departs Sat. at 0700 and will return Sunday. Cost: $115 adults, $55 children (Dbl. Occ.)

Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking

Join Outdoor Recreation for an adventure of camping, rafting and kayaking in Kernville, CA. Trip departs Outdoor Recreation at 9 a.m., Friday, May 5. Campground (with hot showers) is on the bank of the Kern River, all camping gear furnished. On Saturday, make 2 raft and 2 kayak runs through rapids up to category 3. Return Sunday afternoon. Breakfast will be served in camp and lunch will be provided on Saturday. Cost: $150, Adult, $135 Kids (9 - 12) plus $20 wet suit rental. Sign up early, as this is our only whitewater trip for the year.

Wilson Tank

This hike is located in South Cottonwood Valley, which is off Highway 160 (Blue Diamond Road) about 5 miles before Mountain Springs Summit on the way to Pahrump, or about 12 miles south of Red Rock Canyon. It is an out-and-back hike about 6.5 miles long with an elevation gain of about 700 feet. The climb rate is very gradual. There is an option to make a partial loop at the beginning without adding more than 1/2 mile, but there is a bit more climb using that loop. At the high point of the trail, we will come out on a ridge from which you will be able to see Las Vegas from the southwest about 20 miles away. This hike requires some stamina for the somewhat longer distance.

Zion Narrows Hiking and Camping Trip

Calling all hikers! Join OR for our annual trek up Zion Narrows in beautiful Zion National Park. We will depart Outdoor Recreation at 5 p.m. on Friday. Camp will be set up and waiting for you when you arrive! Early Saturday we experience the magnificence of the Zion Narrows as you proceed up the canyon the scenery beckons you to keep going to see what new wonder is just around the next corner. Cost is only $65 and includes all camping equipment, food and fees along with transportation.
