Need a place to come and just relax? The Community Center is your place! We have an “at ease” atmosphere where you can watch television on our plasma screen TV, eat your lunch, do some quiet studying, challenge a friend to ping pong, pool, air hockey or play a game on our Playstation, Xbox or Wii video game systems. The Community Center is also a great place to surf the net and is WI-FI hot spot with a small cyber café to access the internet.
The Community Center has a conference room available for meetings, instructional classes, or social functions; simply call to check availability and reserve the space. You are welcome to bring in refreshments to enjoy during your meetings.

DOG OBEDIENCE - 7 WEEK COURSE
Instructor: Charlene Bruno
Class is open to all breeds of dogs three months and older and their adult handlers only. Pets must complete all series of shots before enrollment in the course; proof of completion is required.
Initial Class is for Handlers only (no pets) at the Community Center and all other classes will be conducted at Freedom Park. Classes are held Thursday evening from 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Course Fee: $45.00
GYMBOREE
Instructor: Rachelle Birnbaum
Classes are held on Thursday morning from 9:30am – 10:05am for ages 12 through 23 months; 10:15am – 10:50 am and 11:00am – 11:35am for ages 24 through 48 months.
Class Fee: $25.00 per month
JIU-JITSU
Instructor: Sidney Batista da Silva
Classes are held on Mondays 6:00pm – 7:00pm for ages 5 through adult.
Class Fee: $30.00 per month
KENPO KARATE

Classes are held on Saturdays 1:00pm – 3:00pm for ages 5 through 12 and 2:00pm – 4:00pm for ages 13 through adult.

Private lessons are 30 minutes and held on Tuesday evening between 4:30pm – 6:00pm; and Thursday evenings
between 4:30pm – 6:30pm for ages 6 through adult.
Group lessons are 45 minutes and held on Tuesday evening from 6:00pm – 6:45pm for ages 6 through adult.
Private: $25.00 per lesson
Group: $15.00 per lesson
PIANO LESSONS
Instructors: Dennis Mellen (Mon-Thurs) and Sandra Jackson (Fri/Sat)
Private lessons are 30 minutes and held Monday through Friday afternoons from 4:00pm – 6:30pm and Saturday mornings from 10:00am – 12:30 pm for ages 6 through adult.
Fee: $15.00 per lesson
The Community Center also sponsors several programs:
BASE SWAP MEET – Come out and sell your new, old & unused items at our monthly swap meet held Saturday from 9:00am – 1:00pm located in the parking lot of Building 625. Stall rentals are $5 each.
CONGRESSIONAL AWARD PROGRAM – The Congressional Award Program recognizes young people 14 to 23 years of age for achieving individual goals in four program areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness and Expedition/Exploration. RED HAT SOCIETY – Interested in forging new friendships and enjoying fun-filled activities with other women over the age of 50? Then the Crazy Flying Red Hatters of Nellis AFB is the club for you! Group meets the first Wednesday of every month at the Community Center at 6:00pm. Open to all women over the age of 50.
SEASONAL SANTA/ELF SUIT RENTAL – Add a special touch to your holiday party with the arrival of Santa and his elves or bring the magic of Santa to your home. (Rental period is 24 Hr.) Santa suit is $25.00/Elf suit is $15.00 – season begins in late November.
STORK RENTAL – Announce the newest arrival to your family with a 5-day rental of our yard stork for just $20.00. Also a great decoration for use at baby showers!
Annual events include:
AMERICA’S KIDS RUN – This free event is held annually during the month of May to promote family fun and fitness through walking and running activities. Participants will run anywhere from ½ mile to 5K dependent upon age bracket. Open to all families and youths ages 5 through adult. All event participants receive a race t-shirt.
MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATER – The Missoula Children’s Theatre is an annual Air Force International Tour Program that comes to Nellis during the month of August. Open auditions are held for children in grades 1 thru 12 with over 50 roles available. Rehearsals are normally conducted Monday through Thursday evenings with (2) free performances held at the base theater. Performances are Friday evening and Saturday matinee.
“UGT” U GOT TALENT (Family & Teen Talent Contest) – Want to experience an entertainment based family activity? Show off your talent at our annual spring event with 8 categories for families and youths to compete in (youth ages 6-18 can compete in solo or group acts while families can only compete as groups of parent/child or husband & wife.) This event brings out the best in Air Force families! Winners from each category are submitted via videotape to compete Air Force wide.
BUILD-A-BOAT COMPETITION – Build up your squadron or club camaraderie at this fun event, all while constructing a vessel out of cardboard and duct tape to race across the base pool. Come up with a theme and have your group play the part – creativity counts! Cash prizes and trophies awarded to fastest finish and most uniquely decorated. Entry Fee - $25.00.
COLOSSAL COOKIE CHALLENGE – This annual cookie challenge is designed to showcase your baking skills by submitting your favorite recipe in one of (2) categories – No Bake and Cookie Makers Special. All recipes judged on taste, appearance and creativity. Each recipe must only be submitted in one category however, you may submit more than one recipe. First place winners advance to the air force wide competition.
CHESS TOURNAMENT – This annual March tournament is open to all active duty, their dependent spouses and children ages 6-18, retirees, DoD civilians and contractors. Divisions are based upon tournament participation with first place winners being awarded in each division. All matches are single elimination. Only active duty USAF members are eligible for advancement to the AF Chess Tournament.
TOPS IN BLUE – These elite Air Force entertainers perform annually at Nellis AFB. The Community Center is responsible for organizing their visit. Their exciting, crowd pleasing shows have been held at both on and off base venues. Tops In Blue is such a great tradition that we all look forward to every year.
